PSA: Piney Branch is going to be a mess next week

Piney Branch Parkway goes from Arkansas Avenue down to Beach Drive NW

DDOT sent out a notice that Piney Branch, from Arkansas to Beach Drive is going to have temporary lane closures starting Tuesday, May 31st through Friday, June 3rd as they work on the 16th Street bridge repair work.

A lane should be open during the construction, but finding a different route next week is probably the smartest idea. DDOT release is below:

Temporary Lane Closures for the Rehabilitation of 16th St. Bridge over Piney Branch Parkway NW Project from May 30 through June 03, 2022 

Washington, D.C.) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) anticipates the implementation of the following temporary lane closures on the Piney Branch Parkway, NW (from Arkansas Avenue, NW to Beach Drive) and on the 16th Street Bridge, as part of the ongoing 16th Street Bridge rehabilitation work, beginning on Monday, May 30, 2022, and to last through Friday, June 03, 2022, weather permitting to necessitate the following:  

  • Monday 5/30 – Holiday – No MOT

  • Tuesday 5/31 through Friday 6/03

    • One Lane Closure on Piney Branch for demo shield install, overhang install, and unloading of materials into the yard.

  • Wednesday 6/1 – Night Work Closure @ 12AM – Ongoing

    • Remove existing and place Phase 1 temporary pavement markings

  • Long Term

    • Phase 1 MOT Closures on 16th Street Bridge

    • Phase 1 MOT on 16th Street Bridge – Reduced to 3 lanes

    • East Sidewalk Closure

    • Pedestrian are advised to use the West Sidewalk for north-south access across the bridge

Except for Phase 1 MOT closures, all closures will take place Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 3:00 pm, weekdays.

 Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful of construction personnel.
