A new restaurant and a clothing store to open on Upshur in the next few months

851 Upshur Street, which will become a high-end clothing store.

As proof in the pudding that Upshur is doing fine comes the news that two new businesses are opening up in the next few months on the corridor. Both are the brainchild of Don Route, who grew up in the Petworth area.

A new high-end clothing store, Majors, is getting ready to open at the beginning of February at 851 Upshur St NW. This corner spot was recently the Upshur Street Barber Shop, which closed last year. Route said he plans to offer different types of clothing for men and women. He recently repainted the exterior of the building and is completing the interior renovations (look for marble tile floors, a cool glass chandelier, and more). Signage should come soon, with an opening in the next few weeks.

Cuzzin’s carry out, a long-time staple of Upshur Street, closed last year and will get a new life as a juice bar / health food restaurant.

Route has also taken over the Cuzzin’s location at 849 Upshur. He’s planning on opening up a restaurant called Delilah and Maes, offering healthy food choices like a fresh juice bar, natural smoothies, acai berry bowls, avocado rolls, wheat grass shots and more. He hopes to open the restaurant in the Spring.

More details to come as both locations finish their build-outs.
