New mobile-friendly Community Calendar launches on its one-year anniversary!

The "pinboard" view of the new Petworth News Community Calendar

By Rachel Maisler

Last week, the Petworth News Community Calendar quietly celebrated its first anniversary. From ANC meetings to events on Upshur street, community classes at the Petworth library and neighborhood socials, the Community Calendar has evolved into a great resource for the neighborhood. We're excited to launch an all-new version that easier-to-use, prettier and works great on your phone.

The events listed on the Community Calendar are submitted by Petworth News readers, making it a true community experience. Thank you to all who have helped make our Calendar one of the best resources for all things Petworth!

The Calendar offers a new, dynamic interface. There are now three views: Monthly grid view, Agenda list view and Pinboard view (pretty, but a tad chaotic).

Use the dropdown to switch views from Pinboard, Agenda or Monthly.

Stay in-sync
You can "subscribe" to the calendar, if you want to import the events and keep them synced with your calendar (Google, iCal for Mac, Outlook Live, Yahoo and others). Just click the "subscribe" link next to the submit button at the top of the calendar widget, and you'll see a pop-up window with the options to subscribe.

click the subscribe button and a pop-up appears with calendar syncoptions

Submit your own events
It's easy to submit an event, and you are encouraged to upload a picture to accompany your submission. If your event is recurring (like an ANC meeting), then put that into the notes section and we'll make sure it shows up every month.

There are some caveats to submitting your own event, of course. The Calendar is available for any resident or business of Petworth to promote events that benefit residents of the greater Petworth neighborhoods (Brightwood, Crestwood, 16th Street Heights, Shepherd Park, Takoma, Park View, etc.). We don't promote any event that occurs outside of the area (like Columbia Heights or Capitol Hill because... they're not Petworth, yah?). All submissions are reviewed before publishing.

Drew's Note: If you have any questions or want to compliment Rachel for volunteering to manage the Community Calendar on her own time for the past year, just email Rachel! I really appreciate her hardwork!

Check out the new and improved Community Calendar!
