Mobile library comes to Kennedy Street every third Thursday this Summer

by Cesse Ip

While residents of Brightwood Park wait for a library in their neighborhood, they can enjoy The Library on the Go-Go, a mobile library housed in a 24 foot truck, parked at 600 Kennedy St NW every third Thursday all summer (June 16, July 21, August 18) from 3-6pm.

The Library on the Go-Go vehicles are provided by DC Public Library to provide library services to communities outside physical library walls all over the city. This summer they partnered with Uptown Mainstreet to bring a library to Kennedy Street and promote their summer program, Discover Summer. The program promotes summer reading and allows participants to track their progress and win prizes like gift cards to the movies, local bookstores and restaurants, and tickets to Washington Nationals games!

To kick off the summer program there will be a free bilingual dance class for kids provided by Dance Loft on 14th from 3-3:45pm. Throughout the afternoon there will also be lawn games, bubbles, and other activities, in addition to book browsing and check out! There will be a variety of books available to check out for all ages.

Books checked out from the mobile library can be returned to the mobile library at future dates, or at any DC Public Library throughout the District.

Cesse Ip moved to DC in 2008, and in 2014 she and her husband decided to make Petworth their home. Petworth is where she found her best friends, her kids’ friends and her “people.” When she’s not working for the Department of Defense or chasing around her two small sons, she enjoys cooking, eating (especially when someone else is doing the cooking), reading and playing Settlers of Catan. A true nerd with two degrees in mathematics, writing came late to her, but she is looking forward to answering your questions about our community!
