Halloween events happening in the Petworth area

It's time for another spooky Halloween holiday in Petworth! Below is a list of events happening over the weekend and through Tuesday, October 31st. If you know of an event not listed below, contact Drew.


Friday, October 27th

5:00pm Trick or Treat at Park View community center (Sponsored by DPR) RSVP
Bring your kids out for a fun afternoon of Halloween games, candy and make your own candy apples!  There will be games, bags and candy for kids ages 17 and under!
 

5:00pm: Upshur Park Harvest Party (Sponsored by DPR)  RSVP
Come out to our costume parade around the recreation center and then come inside to enjoy festive games, while enjoying some fall favorite treats!

Note: Petworth Park is supposed to have a Halloween Parade but DPR doesn’t have it listed on their events website.
 

6-8pm: Halloween Spooktacular, St. Paul's Rock Creek
You’re invited to attend St. Paul’s Rock Creek Parish annual spooktacular Halloween Bash! Join us for an evening filled with treats, spooky crafts, pumpkin decoration, cemetery hayrides, and more! You’ll make memories you can cherish and connect with a new community of fun, friendly people. Admission is free. We ask that you donate a canned food item for the Food Bank. Google calendar link.


Saturday October 28th

9am-11:30am: 14th & Kennedy Farmers Market Fall Festival
Pumpkin Decorating (provided), Scarecrow Making (bring an old outfit), Yard Games (provided)
  9:45am: Kids Halloween Costume Parade
  10am-12 pm: Music by Calvin Thomas
  11am: "Thriller” Dance Class led by Dance Loft
  11:30am: Apple Pie Contest Winner Announced

 

Dia de Los Muertos 3-Day Event on Upshur Street (events continue into the following week)
9am-1pm: Petworth Farmers Market - Altar making classes
5:30pm: Crossfit Petworth -- Screening of the animated movie, Book of Life
 

11am-2pm: Little Cocos -- Pumpkin decorating & brunch on the roof -- email for RSVP / tickets.
 

1pm-4pm: 11th Annual Celebrate Petworth Taylor Street Halloween Bash Block Party
Now in its 11th year, this popular block party on the 500 block of Taylor Street NW offers a moonbounce, pumpkin painting, games, food and more! 


5pm-8:30pm: Buchanan Street Halloween Block Party
We will have a giant dragon moon bounce in the middle of the street (1500 block of Buchanan), along with the TUNNEL OF DOOM (cardboard box tunnel maze), a Halloween piñata, food, drinks, costume party, and more! 
 

6-10pm: Brains & Booze! -- Upper 14th Street "Brains & Booze" Halloween Crawl
Seven participating locations on the 3500-3900 block of 14th Street NW.  As darkness sets in, adults looking to indulge in an evening of devilishness, drinks and spooky-themed dishes at the inaugural Upper 14th Street "Brains & Booze" Halloween Crawl. Includes Little Coco’s, Lyman’s Tavern, Red Derby, Mezcalero Cocina Mexicana, Taqueria Habanero, Airedale and The Pinch. Each restaurant and bar will be featuring a variety of creepy Halloween-inspired culinary and cocktail creations such as a Squid Ink Martini, Congealed Blood Jello Shots, and Spleen Sandwiches at Little Coco’s; Sangre de Muerto (Blood of the Dead) Shots at Taqueria Habanero; I Want Your Soul Combo (Resurrection Ale and a Shot of Redemption Rye) at Red Derby; and Blood Sausage Snacks at Airedale, etc. Halloween crawl-hoppers who get their card stamped at each location will be entered into a next-day raffle for a chance at winning gift certificates, complimentary food and drink, and an assortment of restaurant and bar-branded goodies. Brains & Booze cards available at participating locations the night of the event.

In addition, several participating restaurants and bars will be hosting themed after parties beginning at 10pm including:

  • Airedale – Costume Karaoke!
  • The Pinch – Live Music (Murphy’s Law—Doors Open at 7PM)!
  • Red Derby – "Motown Halloween Party - An Evening with Love, Peace and Soul’
  • Little Coco’s – Costume Bingo! (Hosted on the Roof)
  • Mezcalero – Fundraiser for Mexico (a late-night dinner with DJ & dancing) $25/Door

Sunday, October 29th

9am-12pm: ANXO - Happy Trees Harvest Festival
Apple pressing, costume contests & pumpkin painting. In honor of the birthday of Bob Ross, we are throwing a neighborhood festival at the Kennedy St. Tasting Room! There will be costume contests for both kids and dogs, live apple pressing, live landscape painting, pumpkin painting, Chef Alex Vallcorbas famous seafood paella, and the release of two exciting new ANXO ciders.

Sherman Circle Halloween Parade & Nature Walk
4pm: Parade for Kids 10 and Under - costumes are encouraged!
5pm: Nature Walk - gather by the water fountain!

Kids under 10 are invited to join the parade, pick up some treats and take fall photos in the Circle. Kids can also guess the weight of a pumpkin for a chance to win a prize and play games on the lawn. After the parade, every nature lover is invited to join local experts Carol Herwig and Steven Feingold to learn about Sherman Circle’s historic trees and landscape. You'll also be able to check out the cool pirate ship at 1 Sherman Circle during the event (see photo at top of article).

Also...Lyman’s (I couldn't find the details on this...)
Lyman’s will be having a kid-friendly pumpkin carving starting Sunday afternoon till we run out of pumpkins. You can also bring your own and we have tools!

Tuesday, October 31st -- Halloween!

4;30pm: Petworth Recreation Center Halloween Parade & Ghouls Hunt

Kids costume parade, meet front of Rec Center on Taylor St. Parade up to Upshur St for trick or treating, then back to park for “Ghouls hunt” around the grounds with prizes and candy.

 

6pm-12am: Halloween Spooktacular at Ten Tigers Parlour
Pilot Jones and crew are taking control of the cockpit at Ten Tigers for an all-night bass music marathon.  Local DJs will treat Petworth to the spookiest flavors in dance music, spinning everything from dubstep to disco during this epic back-to-back mix. Admission is free with a costume, or a $5 donation towards GlobalGiving’s hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico. 7pm: Slash Run Whiskey Witches' Charity Halloween Party
Are you looking to have a good time for an amazing cause? Slash Run and CityWitches DC invite you to a witchy-themed charity DJ event with DJ Tara Robles at Slash Run on October 31. Admission is free and all tarot readings and a portion of the bar purchases are donated to Community Connextionz. Join us for music, drinks, and tarot readings as we raise money for a worthy, under-served cause -- donating reusable menstrual cups to local women with insufficient access to basic sanitary needs. Healthy menstrual management can be life changing, and your participation can help to provide dignity and protection to these women. It’ll be great fun for a great cause and we hope that you will join us!


WEDNESDAY NOV 1st (Day of the Dead / Dia de los Muertos)

Dia de Los Muertos 3-Day Event continues...
5pm: Qualia Coffee - Face-painting and special Alter Art Installation
6pm-7:30pm: on the street outside Qualia Coffee & Homestead
Day of the Dead Street Procession with a Mariachi band, dance, live readings, performances, and viewing of altars/art. 


And hey... the week after:

Sunday, November 5TJ (updated due to rain)

3-7:30pm: Block Party, 100 Block of Varnum St NW
