Volunteer as a Mentor for teens with the BUILD DC entrepreneur program

Have you ever dreamed of owning your own business or learning the skills that it takes to be an entrepreneur? BUILD is an organization that empowers students to develop and run their own small businesses — and they’re looking for people to volunteer as a mentor to help students excel.

Entrepreneurship is the hook, and college and career success are the goals.

BUILD operates school-based business incubators, helping student business teams launch and run their very own startups. BUILD students are provided with individualized academic support and business coaching, supported by mentors who work with our young entrepreneurs.

Mentors meet virtually with our students once every other week for 60 minutes with our partner schools in the District. Mentors work with the students as they learn teamwork and collaboration skills, create and grow their businesses, pitch to investors, and manufacture and sell their products.

A long-time and beloved mentor remarked, “Since working with BUILD Metro DC as a mentor, I have personally seen how the program invests in each student’s curiosity to gain knowledge. The structure has been fine tuned to give the students a foundation of what is needed to reach the end goal. By creating a relationship with the student, I am able to encourage and motivate them to think creatively as an entrepreneur.”

The commitment: 60 minutes, every other week during a regularly scheduled class session time (same time every other week, Monday through Friday, between 9am - 4pm) from November through June. If you want to connect, empower, laugh, and learn with students across the District, BUILD mentoring is right for you!

The BUILD team is looking for folks who are ready to meet students where they are and inspire them to continue their entrepreneurial journey.
