DPW releases Street Sweeping app so you know when it's time to move your car

This looks pretty handy. The Department of Public Works, which is responsible for street cleaning (and parking tickets!), has released an app for iOS and Android that will send out notifications when it’s time to move your car. Their press release is below… you can find the app on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Street sweeping starts March 4th… they usually give people a pass on tickets the first week, but after that you’ll find a pink slip on your window (or in the mail) once the sweepers start their work.

The weather turns warmer, the snow melts away and Spring is in the air! (Oh, yeah, not much snow this year... thanks climate change). But sure enough, the next sigh of Spring coming to DC is the return of street sweeping and you having to move your car to the other side of the street.

Ah, the approach of Spring in DC… when the weather begins to warm up, then gets cold again, then warms up… and you have to move your car to the other side of the street.

DPW street cleaning and alternate side of the street parking begins Tuesday, March 1st (through October 31st). DPW will give out warning tickets until Friday, March 4th — after that, it’s a $45 ticket if you’re parked on the side being cleaned. Or you could get towed.
