Not OK Corral: Gunshots continue at Emerson & 7th Street

(courtesy Google Maps)

After last week's gunshots and subsequent arrest of two suspects, one would think things would quiet down near Emerson St and 7th. Turns out, not so much.

Update 3pm Nov 16th: Lt. Washington, PSA 407 manager, reached out to me today about the recent gun violence and to share MPD's next steps.

Readers told me there were 6-7 shots fired again last night (Sunday) around 8:30pm. According to what MPD wrote to me this morning, police canvassed the 4900 block of 7th Street and found bullet casings from both a 9mm and a .40 caliber gun. No suspects or injured,  and no witnesses, just a stop sign with a bullet hole. MPD took a report of "Destruction of DC Govt Property."

There is obviously a problem house, ongoing criminal activity, a crew-on-crew turf war or a portal to another universe at this location that continues to be potentially deadly. A quick Google search of the address brought up these prior instances (and this is by no means exhaustive):

September 29, 2011: DC Police Investigate Triple Shooting In Northwest (WUSA9) Police say officers were called to 7th Street near Emerson Street around 7:46 Wednesday night for a report of a shooting. The responding officers found two men and a third male victim of unknown age suffering from gun shot wounds. All three were taken to Washington Hospital Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

November 11, 2015: Resident calls about gunshots on Delafield leads to quick arrests (Petworth News)
I heard from several readers last night via Twitter about the sound of 7-9 gunshots near Delafield and Emerson Streets just past 11pm. No one was injured but several vehicles on the 4900 block of 7th St NW were struck by bullets.

A Google map of shootings and gun violence in Petworth put together by resident Jonah Goodman  shows a push-pin party of incidents all around the area.

This location needs to be looked at closely by MPD and the community. Is there a problem house? A convenient location for criminal activity that gets out of hand? Is it all related to the KDY (Kennedy Street) crew fighting with another gang? Crittenden Street crew?

What do you think?

Edit: I changed the title to reflect proper MPD terminology. It should be "gunshots continue" not "shooting," since in MPD parlance, a shooting is when a person gets hit by a bullet. Gunshots are defined as bullets fired, no one hit.
