Support your Petworth schools at an Art & Craft Holiday Market on Sunday, December 12th

by Cesse Ip

Local elementary schools have joined forces to fundraise together this holiday season at the first Petworth PTO Holiday Market, hosted by Dorothy Height Elementary School on Sunday, December 12th from 10-2pm.

Booths will be set up at the parking lot at the southwest corner of 13th and Allison St NW. Each school will have a winter-themed offering, with sales benefiting each respective Parent Teacher Organization.

Here’s what you’ll find from each school:

  • Barnard Elementary School: Holiday card decorating

  • Bruce Monroe: Crafts made by the BMPV community including embroidered shirts

  • Dorothy Height Elementary School: Gingerbread house making

  • John Lewis Elementary School: Hot chocolate and coffee bar

  • MacFarland Middle School: Snack Bar

  • Powell Elementary School: Gift Wrapping Services,

  • Truesdell Elementary School: Ornament decorating and food sales

Because the Petworth Craft Art & Fair is cancelled for the second year in a row, local craft vendors have also been invited to participate. The following vendors have been confirmed as of the date of publication:

Last year, amid the pandemic, officers from the Petworth Elementary School PTOs met virtually to discuss some of the challenges they had encountered in the pandemic and shared some of their best practices so they could all learn together. At that meeting, the idea was floated to have a joint fundraising event, so the elementary schools weren’t all “competing” for resources.

Now the local elementary schools are excited to be working together, feeding off each other’s energy, and building up the Petworth community by offering this Holiday Market. Please come support your local DCPS schools and help us spread the word! Also, it is lottery season, so this is a great way to meet families of your neighborhood school.

Come out on Sunday, December 12th to shop, support your local schools and have a good time!
