Jefferson Street block party / youth empowerment program on Saturday

ANC 4D Commissioners David Sheon and Nancy Roth, along with nearby residents and Pastor Elston from Brightwood Park United Methodist Church, are hosting a block party / potluck on the 800 block of Jefferson Street on Saturday, July 30th from noon to 4pm.

The block party is just one way neighbors can meet each other in a safe community environment. A volunteer community empowerment group, the Brightwood-Petworth Community Alliance, is hosting a potluck at the same time with a goal of helping young people who are looking for work to build a resume, practice interviews and hopefully find a mentor in the neighborhood who can help guide them.

"Everyone in our neighborhood can play a role," Commissioner Sheon said recently in an email. "Good with resumes? Bring a laptop. We'll get you partnered with someone who can use the help. Just want to meet new people? Come join. Potluck tables will be near 8th and Jefferson.  Grills will be near 9th and Jefferson."

Stop by to meet neighbors, grab some food, and help out some young people looking to start their careers.
